After an emergency, the Office of Emergency Management will work with local, State, and Federal departments and agencies, and non-governmental organizations to assist with Recovery Operations. After an emergency, remember to:
- Check-in with family and friends by text messaging or using social media
- Take photos of damage for insurance purposes
- Prevent further property damage (for example, putting a tarp on a damaged roof)
- Only discuss emergency details with licensed and insured contractors, and verify that the license is current and active
- Never let anyone in your home without confirming their identification
- Water may be unsafe to drink; ensure you filter and clarify water with a cloth and boil water, or bleach prior to consuming
- Do not attempt to touch or move downed power lines. Contact BGE, which provides power to most of Central Maryland, by visiting www.bge.com, or calling to report outages at 877-778-2222. If you see sparking power lines, immediately call 9-1-1. For other downed lines call 800-685-0123 or 410-685-0123 (TTY 800-735-2258)
